| When a septic system needs to be installed, updated or replaced. The first step in the process is to perform a site evaluation and design.
The site evaluation determines design flow, well locations, structure's on property, easements, property lines, setbacks, soil characteristics and other property identifiers. Soil observation's are made by soil pits or soil borings. Loading rates are calculated by soil examination or percolation rates. The site should be staked and posted to protect the area until the system in installed.
The design phase will determine things like dwelling classification, design flow, tank size, number of compartments, tank location on property, type of drainfield, size, location, dosing requirements and pump sizing if applicable.
Other items may be included such as a soil survey report, monitoring plan, mitigation plan and operating permit.
Typically a completed design packet along with a permit application from your local unit of government will allow you to receive a permit for construction.
